An 8-day journey from Delhi to Mumbai by rail, including a visit to the world’s greatest monument of love – the Taj Mahal – game drives in Ranthambore National Park and the chance to soak up the spectacular regal heritage of Rajasthan.
This trip includes champagne breakfast overlooking the Taj Mahal, the chance to search for tigers in the vivid greens of Ranthambore and a visit to the fabled `Pink City’ of Jaipur, including a tour of its City Palace. You’ll also discover the desert forts of Bikaner, see the imposing Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur, and take a boat ride on picturesque Lake Pichola in Udaipur. Your journey will also feature an exclusive cocktail evening, the opportunity to experience authentic Marwar cuisine and a traditional BBQ dinner in Rajasthan’s desert.
Day 1 Delhi
Welcome aboard the Maharajas’ Express! Enjoy a welcome drink to mark the start of your journey through India’s fascinating northern cities.
Day 2 Agra
Arrive into Agra – the jewel of India. Disembark to visit the world famous Taj Mahal – one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Enjoy champagne breakfast at Taj Khema, a tableland overlooking the Taj Mahal. In the afternoon visit Agra Fort, or you may wish to choose from one of the optional activities available.
Day 3 Jaipur
Today’s discovery of Rajasthan begins early with a game drive in Ranthambore National Park that may provide the opportunity to spot tiger. Later, the train heads to Jaipur, Rajasthan’s `Pink City’ renowned for its magnificent palaces and forts. Visit Jantar Mantar – one of five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II – and the City Palace.
Day 4 Bikaner
Arrive into the desert citadel of Bikaner. Visit Lalgarh Palace Museum, or take an excursion to the Karni Mata Temple. See Junagarh Fort, an unassailable fortress built in 1593 AD. This evening, experience a touch of royal pageantry as decorated camel carts accompanied by musicians take you into the sand dunes for a traditional barbecue dinner.
Day 5 Jodhpur
Why not start the day with traditional Indian bed tea – and enjoy the view from the window of your saloon? This morning, you may wish to embark on a village safari to Bishnoi, enjoy the spa facilities at a luxury hotel or visit Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum and Jaswant Thada. Afterwards, take a late visit to the powerful Mehrangarh Fort followed by a walking tour of the Old Clock Tower Market. Tonight you will enjoy an exclusive cocktail evening and experience authentic Marwar cuisine for dinner.
Day 6 Udaipur
Passing the Aravali Hills, arrive into Udaipur – the City of Lakes. Begin your visit with a boat ride on Lake Pichola and continue to the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan. Visit Mor Chowk with its lavish mosaics of peacocks; Moti Mahal with beautiful mirror work; Chini Mahal covered in ornamental tiles and the spectacular Zenana Mahal.
Day 7 Balasinor
Today, drive to Balasinor and visit the dinosaur fossil park where the fossilised remains of at least 13 species and eggs have earned Balasinor the name of India’s Jurassic Park. Proceed to the Garden Palace for lunch hosted by the royal family. This afternoon you may wish to take some time to soak up the ambiance on the train, enjoying the facilities on board and the views passing by.
Day 8 Mumbai
Arrive into Mumbai in the morning where your journey on the Maharajas’ Express ends.
