Take in views of the city from the impressive Amber Fort and enjoy an exclusive cultural performance and gala dinner in Jaipur. Visit the home of an abundance animals on a safari in Ranthambore National Park, and enjoy the impressive views and a sound and light show at the sprawling Chittorgarh Fort. At Udaipur’s City Palace gaze in awe at the displays of fine antiquities before enjoying a sunset boat cruise on Lake Pichola. Discover an oasis in the desert and enjoy a camel ride and dinner under a carpet of stars at the Golden City of Jaisalmer. You’ll also visit Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and Jodhpur, the `Blue City’ of Rajasthan with its many forts & palaces. And see India’s biggest drawcard, the iconic monument to love, the Taj Mahal, in Agra. A luxurious rail journey to remember.
Day 1 Delhi
Delhi – the capital of India, is a hub of tradition, culture, and politics. The city houses several architectural wonders of a bygone era and it is here where you board the luxurious Palace on Wheels – your fabulous home for the next 7 nights. Settle in to your private saloon, taking in its magnificent royal décor as your journey begins.
Day 2 Jaipur
The train takes you to the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. Visit the City Palace complex with its fusion of Rajput, Mughal and European styles of architecture. Sit high atop a decorated elephant and slowly meander up the steep ramparts to the impressive Amber Fort and visit its museum and network of palaces. An evening cultural program and gala dinner completes the day.
Day 3 Ranthambore National Park
Today embark on an early morning safari to Ranthambore National Park – home to the elusive tiger and a large variety of animals, reptiles and bird species. Later, take an afternoon excursion to sprawling 8th century Chittorgarh Fort, perched atop a wide plateau. Tonight you will be captivated by a sound and light show.
Day 4 Udaipur
The train rolls into Udaipur today. Why not begin your day with a traditional Indian bed tea – your saloon’s personal attendant will be happy to bring it to you. Visit Udaipur City Palace, the largest in Rajasthan, which houses many fine antiquities including Amar Vilas, a pleasure pavilion built in Mughal style with hanging gardens, fountains, towers and terraces. Later enjoy a sunset boat cruise on Lake Pichola.
Day 5 Jaisalmer
Discover Jaisalmer today – India’s spectacular desert town. The Golden City of Jaisalmer is an oasis in the sands and once lay on the main trade route linking India to its trading partners to the West. Famous today for its medieval Golden Fort. Later also visit Jaisalmer Fort – one of the largest fortifications in the world and then venture into the desert for a short camel ride followed by dinner under the stars.
Day 6 Jodhpur
Savour the breakfast and view from the train’s windows in the dining carriage this morning, as the Palace on Wheels reaches the `Blue City’ of Rajasthan – Jodhpur. Once the capital of the Marwar kingdom, Jodhpur features many palaces, forts and temples. Start the day with a visit to Mehrangarh Fort, located atop a 400 feet hill. Walk to nearby Jaswant Thada, an architectural 19th century landmark in white marble, built as a memorial to local royalty.
Day 7 Agra
This morning ride a cycle rickshaw through the narrow pathways of the Bharatpur Bird sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to more than 230 species of birds. In the afternoon, visit Agra Fort, once the seat of power and capital of The Mughal Dynasty, before proceeding to the magnificent Taj Mahal – one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Reflect on all that you have seen today in the train’s lounge before dinner.
Day 8 Delhi
Arriving back into Delhi at Safdarjung Railway Station, a farewell ceremony concludes your journey on the Palace on Wheels.
