Best and Worst of Sri Lankan Hotels: Hotel Report, 2010

After an exhaustive 10 day whirlwind tour of Sri Lanka, during which I inspected more than 50 hotels, I am pleased to present my ‘Top 8 Flat Out Best Hotels of Sri Lanka’ and ‘Top 8 Best Value Hotels of Sri Lanka’ and importantly my ‘No No No Award’

Top 8 Flat Out Best Hotels of Sri Lanka (in no particular order):

Ulagalla Resort, near Anuradhapua. Amazing high end property with private villas, ideal for honeymooners or private time

Warwick Gardens, near Nuwara Eliya. Converted tea estate bungalow – secluded but not remote.

Weligama Bay Resort, Weligama. I had two relaxing nights here. Simple but well appointed rooms. Swimming and surfing beach immediately in front of the property

Amanwella, Tangalle. It’s an Aman property – der!

Dutch House, Galle. Wonderful heritage property for discerning travellers

Tamarind Hill, near Galle. A discreet small boutique property, very laid back. Fantastic infinity pool

Club Villa, Bentota. One of the original boutique hotels in Sri Lanka. Still holds up very well against the new comers

Casa Colombo. A fusion boutique hotel. The most interesting rooms I have seen in a long time
