Our Story1995
I (Lincoln) visit India for the first time - a 16 year old seeking a travel adventure and an experience of a different way of life.
1995 to 2000
I continue to visit India as a traveller and sometimes resident, especially Dharamsala in the Himalayan foothills.
2001
I think about how to support my India addiction. On the suggestion of a friend I form a sole-proprietorship immodestly title 'Journeys with Lincoln Harris' with the intention of leading small group tours to India, initially focusing on North India and the Himalaya. In October 2001 I take my first group - with a grand total of three participants. (Thank you Sam, Keith and Alison!)
2001 to 2007
The Journeys go well and I start offering tours to other parts of North and South India.
2007-2008
Leading group tours is hard work! I realise I now have thorough first-hand knowledge of India and I can use the knowledge and contacts in India to plan trips for people without me accompanying them - what I called Assisted Independent Travel - but this would require a name change - after all it would no longer need a Journey with Lincoln Harris.
2008
India Unbound Pvt Ltd is incorporated. Yah!
The financial crisis strikes and terrorists attack the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai. Visitors numbers are reduced to near zero. Unfortunate events and poor timing.
2009
Things pick up and our travellers love the Assisted Independent Travel format.
2010 - 2013
Lincoln and Madelene move to Mumbai. What an amazing city! This is why India Unbound is biased towards Mumbai! While based in Mumbai I am able to visit many new and off-beat places around India. I also started travelling in Sri Lanka and of course fell in love with the island.
2015
With India Unbound growing, it's time to return to Melbourne, open a proper office and get help running the business. We continue to offer Assisted Independent Travel and refine it to become Private Touring (link)
2016 - 2020
India Unbound and Sri Lanka Unbound continue to grow. It's time for me to get back in touch with my passion for introducing people to the sub-continent, so we develop and launch Remarkable East - small group tours.
2020 - 2021

2022 - 2023
People pour back into travel. Kanwal, Shash and Saurabh join the team, based in Delhi, Colombo and Mumbai respectively, significantly adding to our expertise and man-power.
2024
East Asia expert Luke Mitchell joins us. And helping us enter the digital age and broadcast our story around the world are Shubham, Raveena, Uttam, Mohit, Basharat and Twinkle based in Delhi.
