  • Introduction

The spectacular Kumaon region in the state of Uttarakhand, close to the border of western Nepal, is one of the best-kept secrets in the Himalaya. This unique trip involves gentle walking of 10 to 15 kilometres per day, with overnight stays in refurbished village homes.

Breathtaking views of the snowy summits of the Upper Himalaya are on offer throughout the Kumaon region. The trail takes you through small villages, farmland, forest and green valleys, with a diverse range of flora and fauna

This unique trip involves gentle walking of 10 to 15 kms per day, with overnight stays in refurbished village homes. Walking from village to village in this untouched area allows you to to mingle with local families and experience village life without disturbing the local life (in fact your visit provides an economic benefit to the village communities). The terrain is hilly but because the location is the Himalayan foothills (rather than mountains), the altitude or gradient is not overly demanding – suitable for anyone with reasonable fitness!

    Please note:

    – this walk can be tailored to suit virtually any level of fitness – we can lengthen or shorten the amount of walking.

    – This is an ideal walk for families. The village and farm life is most interesting for kids of all ages and there is always a game of cricket which you will be welcome to join in.

    – Ideally it’s worth adding atwo night stay at one of the lovely mountain lodges at end of the walk – reward for your effort!
